Our Play School room offers a range of activities to children to progress their development across a wide range of areas. We follow the national Curriculum for Excellence; using Assessment is for Learning and working alongside our early intervention teacher for baseline assessments.
Our Play School room is bright and stimulating and extends onto a private, enclosed outdoor play area. Not only do the children benefit from the fresh air and exercise that comes with outdoor play but it helps develop a healthy appetite, promote sound sleep and develop better physical movement and co-ordination keeping them fit and healthy.
Planning is flexible and will be responsive to the children’s interests, allowing for timed activities and free flow play which engages children and challenges their thinking. Staff use a variety of methods for planning such as learning walls, observation and child consultation. Staff promote independence in Play School and encourage children to choose and serve their own lunches and snack, with assistance if required.
We use emotional literacy within the playroom to help children understand their emotions and feeling and the emotions of others. During transition time we work closely with Primary Schools to promote a smooth transition for all children and their families.
